EMS upgrade proposal

Boardman Township firefighters presented trustees earlier this month with a proposal to change from a basic first-responder department to paramedic responders. Some details:

Twelve firefighters are paramedics.

2006 calls: 3,433.

Medical responses for 2006: 2,480.

Of the 2,480, 1,772 patients were transported to area hospitals.

Start-up costs, one ambulance and equipment: $212,180.

Estimated first-year revenue based on 75 percent collection rate, $391,778.
