Assistance abounds for kids at Oak Hill club


Jakquetta Peoples, a youth development specialist at the Boys and Girls Club of Youngtown, 2105 Oak Hill Ave., helps several students with their homework. The club offers a variety of after-school and Saturday programs, including the homework assistance program from 3 to 4:45 p.m. weekdays.

At right, Andreā€™a Roberts, 9, of Youngstown, gets to work. The session was Monday. The educational session is one of many programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club. Others include arts and crafts, dance and nutrition. The mission statement of the club says it is dedicated to providing programs and services in a safe, supervised environment and to inspiring and enabling all young people of the community to realize their full potential. Orientation for new members is held 6 p.m. on Fridays.
