Private prison gets OK to increase inmate population

YOUNGSTOWN — The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, a private prison on the city’s East Side, expects to increase its inmate population by 240.

The city’s board of control granted permission to the Correctional Corporation of America, the Nashville-based company that operates the prison, to increase the number of federal detainees from 2,016 to 2,256.

CCA must get the city’s permission to add prisoners under a contract between the two entities.
