Butler Art Institute to host Warner Bros. exhibition


The Butler Institute of American Art will host a variety of free special events in conjunction with “That’s All Folks! The Art of Warner Brothers Cartoons.”

* 1 p.m., March 2 and April 27, Butler instructor Richard DiGia will teach kids ages 10 to 14 how to draw their favorite Looney Tunes characters. Call Mary Pat George at (330) 743-3630 for registration. The program begins at the Institute and concludes at Butler North.

* 2 p.m. March 2, Youngstown State University film studies professor Dr. Rick Shale will present an illustrated lecture titled “The Life and Times of Bugs Bunny and Friends” at Butler’s Beecher Center, Zona Auditorium. Shale will offer insight into the classic era of cartoons and the Looney Tunes influence on American popular culture.

* 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5, 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 10 and 17 the Butler will show Warner Bros. cartoons at the Butler’s Beecher Center, Zona Auditorium. Call (330) 743-1107

* 1 p.m. March 16 and April 20 the Butler invites children 8 to 12 and their adult companions to Butler Family Days. Children can enjoy a tour of the Warner Bros. exhibit and then create a work of art inspired by the show. * 1 p.m. March 16 and April 20 the Butler Film on Art Series presents “Hollywood: An Empire if Their Own.” This A&E documentary presents a fearless and provocative look at how the Warner family — Eastern European immigrants and first-generation American Jews — managed to change the image of a nation and founded “America’s Dream Factory” while struggling to reinvent themselves as Americans.
