Fitch girls JV team wins at Camelot
The Austintown Fitch junior varsity girls team won the Camelot Lanes Invitational recently, edging Massillon Perry by four pins, 3455 to 3451.
The event Feb. 15 was open to any junior varsity team in Ohio. It was organized by Boardman High coach Brian Umstead, who said he did it “because there are no state finals for junior varsity bowlers.”
Twelve boys teams and seven girls teams participated, including several from the Akron-Canton area and Brunswick.
Fitch’s girls, coach by Don Morrison, were 10-0 overall and 8-0 in the Federal League.
“We’re tying to get more JVs involved and that’s whey this recognition is good,” said girls coach Don Morrison, who helps Dino Balkan with the varsity girls.
The team members were Daria Harris, Victoria Phelps, Megan Wilhelm, Kristen Dota and Lauren Ferry.
Winners and second-place teams were awarded plaques.
Fitch’s boys were runner-up behind GlenOak, 4645-4363.
At last week’s OHSAA sectionals at Camelot, several varsity teams and individuals advanced to this weekend’s Wickliffe district.
