Brookfield snaps Maplewood’s unbeaten streak in Div. III final


ASHTABULA — Brookfield put four players in double figures and rolled to a 55-40 victory over previously unbeaten Maplewood Saturday in the Division III district championship game at Lakeside High School.

Morgan Bonekovic led the Warriors (22-2) with 19 points, while Lauren Gentile and Kelly Jones each added 12 points and Kodi Brenner had 11.

The Warriors dominated the first two quarters jumping out to a 34-12 advantage and then coasted in the second half.

Brookfield moves on to regional play Wednesday night against Rootstown in a semifinal game at Cuyahoga Falls at 6:15.

Maplewood, which was led by Michelle Sloan’s 14 points, finished the year 23-1.

Southington 61, Mogadore 42

WARREN — Southington put the game out reach with a 13-6 surge in the third quarter of the Div. IV boys sectional at Warren Harding.

Trey Tietz led the Wildcats (17-4) with 27 points and Kevin Henline added 10. Travis Gillep and Chad White paced Mogadore (3-18) with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In district semifinals Tuesday, Warren JFK takes on Windham at 6 p.m. and Southington goes against Fairport Harbor at 7:30.
