BOWLING

Zitnik remembered
by good friend

Fanfare:

Outstanding citizen, friend, father and community leader. Not enough can be said about Eddie Zitnik and what a huge loss it is to have him pass. It is impossible to document all the good that he has done.

He was more than a friend to me. He helped me through the most difficult time of my life. If it wasn’t for Eddie and his wisdom and guidance, I might not be here.

I love to spend time with my wife and family, especially my grandchildren.

If anything good came out of Eddie’s passing, it’s knowing that I’ll see him again. Somehow I don’t dread the Grim Reaper as I did before, but I’m not looking forward to it.

God bless Eddie.

NFL

Browns won before
it was Super Bowl

Fanfare:

Jack Thomas makes a good point.

The NFL championship game has been played for many years and started long before 1967. The previous NFL championships were not called Super Bowls but really are the equivalent to what we now call Super Bowls.

The Cleveland Browns of 1946 through 1955 were one of the greatest football teams in history. Otto Graham led the Browns to seven league championships in 10 years with the team, four in the All American Conference from 1946-49 and three in the NFL 1950-55.

In Graham’s other three seasons, the Browns won the conference title but lost the league championship. The 10 for 10 performance in championship games is something no other quarterback can claim.

Fanfare:

Just a short note to once again congratulate our Valley’s champ Kelly Pavlik on his big win in Las Vegas. I did not get to see the fight, but your excellent newspaper coverage and pitcures of the fight and pre-fight festivities were awesome.

It was also nice to see an old friend who I met at the Jewish Community Center when I belonged there year ago, John Loew (Jack Loew’s son) pictures in the paper too.

Just wanted to say Hi John and to tell him I bet he’s proud of his dad’s accomplishments with Kelly and the Southside Boxing Club in general. Jack — we all congratulate you too for such a fine job in training everyone at the club.

It’s uplifting to see such heroes in our valley since the economy and job situation are so depressed in the valley. Its so nice, though, that even with all the valley’s problem, we have such fine individuals such as Kelly and Jack, Ray Boom Boom Mancini and Ernie Shavers.

Once again guys, congratulations on your win in Vegas and my favorite place to visit, Atlantic City. I’d also like to congratulate my high shcool’s basketball champs, Warren Harding, on such a great season. Good luck Raiders in the post season

We may have economic problems here in the valley, but no one can take away our champs.
