‘Sopranos’ star in Showtime series

NEW YORK (AP) — Moving beyond Carmella Soprano, Edie Falco has signed on for a Showtime comedy where she will play a New York City nurse who doesn’t hesitate to tell her superiors off.

Falco’s character is said to have a personal life that is “precarious, unpredictable and demanding in ways that she is surprisingly not always prepared for.”

Described as a dark comedy in the tradition of “Weeds,” the series, which doesn’t have a name yet, will be shot in New York. Showtime is hoping for a premiere late this year.

Falco was nominated for a best actress Emmy six times for her role as the mob wife in HBO’s “The Sopranos,” and won three times.
