Elizabeth J. Santangelo of Boardman has been presented with a $1,000 Achievement Award from GIECO. She is a senior business management major and a 2005 graduate of Boardman High School. GIECO’s annual scholarship is awarded to an individual who shows strong leadership, maintains a high grade-point average, completes an application essay and is endorsed by a university faculty member. She is president of Southeastern’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and played a major role in the organization and success of a SIFE-sponsored 5K run benefiting the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. She serves as a frequent mentor for Polk County Public Schools.

Christy Holland Norman of Boardman has been inducted into Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization. She has also accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society. She is a 2005 graduate of Boardman High School. Sigma Alpha Lambda promotes and rewards academic achievement and provides members with community service, personal development and professional fulfillment opportunities. Golden Key provides academic recognition to top-performing students as well as scholarships and awards, career opportunities and service and leadership opportunities.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE, NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

Three area students have been selected to participate in the 61st annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band March 7-9 at West Chester University. It is the longest-running collegiate festival of its type in the United States and the band will welcome 120 musicians from 26 colleges and universities in Pennsylvania.

Amber Kunder, a senior music education and elementary education major, is the daughter of David and Teresa Kunder of Poland and a graduate of Boardman High School. She plays the flute and is making a return trip to the festival.

Bethany Morse, a senior music education major, is the daughter of Stephen and Lynne Morse of Rochester and a graduate of Grove City Area High School. She plays the horn.

James Scanga, a senior music education major, is the son of James and Kimberly Scanga of Sharpsville and a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School. He plays the trumpet.
