Howland’s Ryan advances in Division II
AKRON — Greg Ryan of Howland High School decisioned T.C. Pazyniak of West Geauga 5-3 in a 140-pound quarterfinal match in the Division II district wrestling tournament Friday at Akron Firestone High School.
Wrestling resumes today at 9 a.m. with championship and consolation finals scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Two rounds of competition were completed Friday. Walsh Jesuit is in first place with 64.5 points and West Geauga is second with 60.5.
Hubbard is tied for 15th with 15 points, while West Branch is tied for 18th with 14. Howland is tied for 22nd with 12 and Poland is tied for 26th with nine points. Salem is 33rd with 5.5.
Robbie Lias, 189 of Hubbard pinned Joe Henderson of Louisville in 4 minutes, 44 seconds in a quarterfinal match.
Jake Mellinger (119) of West Branch was beaten by Kyle Gilchrist of Jefferson 18-6 and Bradon Battison of Howland lost to Tony Kocheff of Kenston 10-8 in the quarterfinals as did Eric Rogel of West Branch, who lost to Mac Hatch of University School 3-1 at 140 pounds.
Brent Stoffer of West Branch was pinned by Drew Leonard of Norton (2:56). Hubbard’s Anthony Nadeja was beaten by Tony Karaffa of Ravenna 7-6 at 152.
In 160 quarterfinals, Salem’s Joe Hamilton lost to Dustin Sarosy of Perry, 4-2 and Ed Bates of Wast Branch was pinned by Cody Cheatham of Walsh Jesuit (1:52). Joe Grech of Howland lost 16-0 to Dennis farmer of West Geauga and Adam Blackwood of West Branch was beaten by Brice Griffin of Northwest at 171.
Jeremiah James , 215, of West Branch was pinned by Kevin Bailey of Walsh Jesuit (3:29) and Greg Lambert, 285, of Salem was pinned by Glen Harbin of Akron Coventry (5:19).
