POLITICAL ENDORSEMENTS: The three of the more prominent Mahoning County-based Democratic clubs issued endorsements for the March 4 primary. In the contested races, the three — the Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts, the South County Democrats, and the Austintown Democratic Club — primarily stuck with the incumbents.

But none of the three endorsed Sheriff Randall Wellington, whose challenger David P. Aey was ruled ineligible by the Ohio Supreme Court.

Also, the South County Democrats and the Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts endorsed John Shultz for treasurer over the incumbent, Lisa Antonini, who is also the Mahoning County Democratic Party’s chairwoman. The Austintown group endorsed Antonini.

Commissioner John A. McNally was endorsed by all but the Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts, which is supporting his opponent, Mary Roby Lyden.

Prosecutor Paul J. Gains received the endorsement of two of the clubs. Heidi Hanni, his opponent, received the support of the Austintown Democratic Club. Coroner David Kennedy was endorsed by all except the South County Democrats. That club endorsed Anil Nalluri.
