Harvest for Hunger kickoff set for Friday


YOUNGSTOWN — The 17th annual Harvest for Hunger kickoff is at 9 a.m. Friday at Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley, 2805 Salt Springs Road.

Harvest for Hunger is a monthlong food and funds drive conducted in March.

Last year, local companies, schools, organizations and individuals raised $86,000 and collected 45,000 pounds of food.

All funds and food collected here stay here to help feed hungry people in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, officials said.

People or groups interested in conducting a food drive or fundraiser to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank should contact Becky Miller at (330) 792-5522 Ext. 20. People may also donate at any local Giant Eagle store by looking for tear-off coupons at the check-out register and the collection bin at the front of the store.

Harvest for Hunger 2008 sponsors include Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ & WBCB, The Vindicator, K-105 and Y-103, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 880 and Time Warner Cable.
