AKRON — The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Akron Children’s Hospital offers “Pregnancy at 35 and Up: Everything Moms-to-Be Need to Know,” the first in its free Healthy Pregnancy Series, from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Considine Professional Building, 215 W. Bowery St. The Healthy Pregnancy Series is customized for women with high-risk pregnancies. The first session is for women 35 and older who are expecting or are considering pregnancy.
All seminars are from 6 to 8 p.m. Other topics and dates include:
“Sweet Success: Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy,” May 15; “Hope and Healing: Pregnancy After Previous Loss,” Aug. 21; “Taking Control: Managing Medical Complications During Pregnancy,” Nov. 20.
Women can look good
despite cancer treatment
The American Cancer Society offers its free “Look Good, Feel Better” program for women of all ages, races and backgrounds who are concerned about their appearance while they undergo cancer treatment. “Look Good, Feel Better” is a two-hour class, led by licensed and trained cosmetologists, that teaches women how to regain the confidence they had before treatment began by improving their physical appearance. Also, participants receive a complimentary kit, valued at between $250 and $300, of cosmetics and beauty supplies from reputable, well-known companies. Kits are available for light, medium, dark and extra-dark complexions.

on wellness issues
BOARDMAN — The Health Choices Network’s lecture schedule for its Spring Wellness Expo, which is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 8 at Antone’s Banquet Centre in Boardman, includes: 10 to 11 a.m., “Be Well, Live Well, Earn Well”; 11 a.m. to noon, “Affordable Health Insurance”; noon to 1 p.m., “Baby Boomer Power Years”; 1 to 2 p.m., “Unlocking the Power of Your Brain to Balance Your Body and Mind”; 2 to 3 p.m., “Matrix Repatterning”; 3 to 4 p.m., “Children’s Research Foundation Health Study”; and 4 to 5 p.m., “Stem Cells.”

Meridian Services expands
teen addiction services
YOUNGSTOWN — Meridian Services is now offering drug and alcohol education and treatment services for adolescents and young adults, ages 15 through 22. The expanded program is in addition to the residential services provided by Northeast Ohio Regional Center for Adolescent Treatment. Services range from an eight-week educational series to live-in residential treatment at the NORCAT facility.

LifeLines gets Ohio grant
WARREN — Trumbull LifeLines, the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Board for Trumbull County, in partnership with Coleman Professional Services and Valley Counseling Services, has received a $162,700 grant from the Ohio Department of Development to provide transitional housing rental subsidies for homeless youths ages 18-22. The grant will serve 15 households over two years beginning this month. Qualified applicants must be diagnosed with a mental illness, be considered homeless by state guidelines, and be interested in pursuing vocational activities. Red Cross training offered
BOARDMAN — The American Red Cross Mahoning County Chapter is offering an instructor training course from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the weekend of Feb. 23 and 24. There is a prerequisite to qualify.
