Man charged in home invasion

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — New Wilmington police arrested a man wanted in a home invasion in Farrell.

Police arrested Matthew D. Duddy, 35, of Stonehouse Lane in Volant, after a bulletin came out and an officer spotted him driving on East Neshannock Avenue in New Wilmington at 3:37 p.m. Saturday.

Duddy was wanted in a confrontation about 20 minutes earlier on George Street in Farrell.

Police say Duddy became involved in a dispute, threatened residents there, and smashed out the front door glass with a steel crowbar to force entry into the home.

He sustained a severe cut on his hand but did get into the house, police said. Once inside, Duddy struggled with a male resident, then fled, police said.

When New Wilmington police found him, they recovered the crowbar from his vehicle, police reported. He was treated at the scene for the cut on his hand and taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

Southwest Mercer Regional Police took custody of him and charged him with terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal trespass, possession of instruments of crime, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, and intimidation of a witness or victim.

He was arraigned on the charges Sunday before District Justice Lawrence Silvis in Jackson Center and released after posting $35,000 bond.
