WARREN — Richard Gephardt, former minority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, will speak in Warren at 3 p.m. today on behalf of Sen. Hillary Clinton. He will appear at the union hall of United Steelworkers of America Local 1375, 684 N. Park Ave. The public is invited. Gephardt has endorsed Clinton, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Online charter school

YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Connections Academy, an online charter school, will hold a “virtual information session” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Parents can log onto the school’s Web site to learn about the tuition-free public school. The session will include a presentation of how the school’s program works, a question-and answer session and a technology demonstration. Pre-registration is required and can be done on OCA’s Web site at www.ConnectionsAcademy.com. The school loans each family a computer, reimburses them for an Internet connection and provides all curriculum materials. Each student is assigned a teacher to oversee learning and assess student progress.

Fire set in vacant house

YOUNGSTOWN — Footprints were found in the snow leading away from a fire intentionally set at 620 W. Ravenwood Ave. on the South Side around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, the fire department said. Firefighters forced their way through doors at the vacant house and discovered that the fire had been started in a back room and burned a hole into the basement. Damage was set at $1,000.

Authors to sign book

BOARDMAN — Canfield authors Kimberly Lisowski and Andrea Pouliot will sign copies of their new book, “The Apple You Were Fed,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at The Family Christian Bookstore, 7415 Market St., across from the Southern Park Mall. The book, which is categorized as nonfiction/inspirational, was released by Mill City Press.

CANFIELD — The February meeting of the Northeastern Ohio Forestry Association will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at McMahon Hall at the Mahoning County Experimental & Educational Farm on state Route 46. Dr. Gary Graham, Ohio State University Extension natural resources specialist, will be the featured speaker. His presentation will cover establishing a simple system of trails and roads that can change how you look at and use your wood lot.

Man kidnapped, beaten

SHARON, Pa. — A 28-year-old Warren man told Sharon police that he was kidnapped from a bar in Masury and driven to Sharon, where he was beaten and left in a neighborhood on East Budd Street. The man reported the crime around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sharon Police Chief Mike Menster said the man told police that he’d met up with two men and a woman at the bar. When he went outside to smoke a cigarette, one of the men punched him and knocked him out, he said. Menster said the man reported being put into a gold Dodge Durango, and then $80 and his cell phone were stolen from his pockets.

2 hurt in 3-car crash

HERMITAGE, Pa. — Two people were injured in a three-car accident at 3:30 p.m. Monday. John Stitt, 80, of New Castle, was attempting to enter Highland Road from Brookshire Drive, police said. His car collided with a car driven by Charles Chrispen, 41, of Hermitage. A car driven by Nancy Taylor, 59, of Sharon, was eastbound on Highland and was hit by the other two cars, police said. Chrispen and a passenger in Stitt’s car, Mary Heath, 75, of New Castle, were taken for treatment at Sharon Regional Health Center, police said.
