School employee has meningitis

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) — An employee at a school in Greene County has bacterial meningitis.

Central Greene School District Superintendent Jerome Bartley says the employee at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School in Waynesburg became ill on Friday.

The district has asked parents to seek treatment for their children if the youngsters experience symptoms of the disease. About 70 students may have had contact with the staff member.

Bartley says the state Health Department notified the district that the staff member has a lower level of infection. Bartley says the person is expected to recover.

The last reported case of bacterial meningitis in Greene County was in December 2006, when a home-schooled student died.
