Man charged with dog-law violations

YOUNGSTOWN — Police charged a 19-year-old man with dog law violations after police said he identified himself as the owner of a pit bull dog that purportedly attacked a 50-year-old man Monday morning on West Princeton Avenue.

Corey R. Council of Volney Road is charged with failure to obtain liability insurance for a vicious dog and failing to register the dog annually.

When police responded to a report of a man being attacked by a white pit bull dog at 9:48 a.m., they said they found the dog in the 500 block of West Princeton Avenue with no visible collar or tags, charging at police cruisers, barking and showing its teeth in an aggressive manner.

There, they spoke to Keith Jackson, 50, of West Indianola Avenue, who pointed to a dog in front of a house, saying that the dog bit him on his left arm as he was walking. He was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew.

Council emerged from a house in that block and took the dog inside, police said. Police said Council identified himself as the dog’s owner and was issued a summons to appear at 9 a.m. today in municipal court. Council turned the dog over to the Mahoning County dog warden for observation, the police report said.
