Crowd awaits Hillary, fills Chaney gym

YOUNGSTOWN — It’s 7:30 p.m. and the crowd is still streaming into Chaney High School gymnasium, waiting to see presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.

There are already hundreds in the bleachers and hundreds more on the gym floor, surrounding a raised stage.

Some stood in line for well over an hour in bone-chilling temperatures.

All of those coming in had to pass through metal detectors before entering the gymnasium.

There was some speculation that Clinton might not put in an appearance until the Wisconsin polls close at 9 p.m.

The crowd is a mix of young and old, being entertained by rock music blasting from loudspeakers, as well as the East High School Panther band and Chaney High Cowboys band.

Authorities said capacity in the gym would be limited to 2,100 but the high school auditorium would be opened for any crowd overflow wanting to hear Clinton speak.
