YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown-Warren Black Caucus and The Mahoning County Democratic Party will honor Black History Month on Feb. 27 with a tribute to black elected officials of the Mahoning Valley. Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams will be the keynote speaker at the event, to be at 6 p.m. at the Rosetta Stone Cafe, 110 W. Federal St. Tickets are $25 and will include appetizers. Head-on crash injures 2

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. — Two people were severely injured in a head-on crash on Wurtemburg Road near Ellwood City, Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle reported. Spring Heather Brunswick, 23, of South Ray Street in New Castle and her passenger, Michael E. Kosciuszko of Golf Avenue in Ellwood, were flown to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after the accident at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. Brunswick was in critical condition late Monday, the hospital said. The hospital did not have any information on Kosciuszko. Brunswick was driving south on the road in the northbound lane, police said. She struck a car driven by Kristen L. Bubb of Bubb Lane in Ellwood. Bubb and her passenger, Daniel Bubb, had minor injuries, police said.

Relay for Life kickoff

AUSTINTOWN — The 2008 Committee for the Relay for Life of Austintown is having its kickoff from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Austintown Fitch High School cafeteria. Treated after assault

AUSTINTOWN — A 40-year-old Johnstown, Pa., man was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Austintown after being assaulted in the parking lot of the Wedgewood Plaza on South Raccoon Road at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. A witness told police a man “sucker punched” the victim on the side of the face, causing him to fall to the ground and injure the other side of his face. The suspect, part of a larger group of males, fled the area in a silver four-door vehicle, the witness said. The victim, who received several stitches to close one wound, told police he didn’t know why he was assaulted.
