Can’t pin NAFTA on Bush

Can’t pin NAFTA on Bush

EDITOR:

I watched Hillary’s speech from Lordstown, and I think she should have saved that performance for an airplane, where barf bags are plentiful.

Who does she think she’s fooling? She had the audacity to blame George Bush for “ Chinese steel coming here and our jobs going there.” Maybe she forgot that it was her husband who signed the NAFTA agreement, not George W. Bush. Remember the warning about “that giant sucking sound would be the sound of American jobs heading elsewhere?” Bill didn’t get it. And evidently Hillary didn’t either.

All of you who have a loved one who lost his or her job to Mexico, China, India and elsewhere can thank your pals the Clinton’s. Look, I know that President Bush has done a lot of damage to this country and generally has been an embarrassment to the nation. But I find Hillary’s audacity in blaming President Bush for her own husband’s screw-ups offensive.

If you believe for one moment that the Clinton’s care about you or this Valley, I have a bridge to sell you and you’re obviously gullible enough to buy it. The Democrat’s of this Valley have a real opportunity. You finally have a candidate who even Republican’s can trust and respect. Barack Obama. Let’s wash away the dirt of the past 16 years and start fresh.

Raising righteous hell

EDITOR:

I can’t say that I have been a big fan of Bertram de Souza, but he was right on the money in his Feb. 10 column. The funny part of it is that in the same edition of your newspaper, it went on to describe the huge profits that oil companies are hauling in.

Attorney Don Hanni and the UAW’s Jim Graham were right on the ball when they invited Hillary and Obama in for a debate. Jim Graham is the voice of the UAW and Don Hanni, as I understand it, is presently recovering from a stroke, but is still raising hell. And its the kind of hell that we from the Youngstown area want to hear.

A better match for JFK

EDITOR:

One expects a certain amount of hype in the silly season that precedes national elections. But the Vindicator headline made me wonder if someone had declared this to be “Opposite Day.”

The headline says that [Senator Ted] “Kennedy compares Obama to JFK…”  Let us see how that comparison comports with reality. JFK cut the marginal tax rate to boost the economy. Senator Obama proposes to raise it in several “soak the rich” schemes. JFK favored a vigorous military to confront an enemy bent on world domination. Obama would abandon Iraq to the forces of worldwide jihadism and declare defeat in this clash of civilizations. JFK was a man who had displayed leadership and personal courage in battle. Obama’s closest brush with the military is having served on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

If Ted Kennedy really wants to endorse a candidate who, like his late brother John, favors lower marginal tax rates, a strong military, and who has demonstrated personal leadership and courage, he’ll lose his membership in the Democrat Party. He’ll be endorsing John McCain.
