YSU RECYCLING Reduce, recycle and reuse


2007 program achievements:

Diverted more than 573 tons of recyclable, reusable and compostable materials from landfill.

Achieved a 35 percent recycling rate.

Food waste composting project has been recognized statewide as the first Ohio college or university program to compost food waste.

Received a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Mahoning County Green Team to help expand the composting project.

2008 program goals:

Divert 600 tons of recyclable, reusable, and compostable materials from the landfill.

Achieve a 40 percent recycling rate.

Conduct surveys and studies regarding food waste composting on campus.

Increase campus awareness of available recycling opportunities through creative events and promotions.

Extend environmental education outreach to local schools and the community.
