Don’t forget dominant
Browns teams in the ’50s

Fanfare:

Contrary to popular belief, there was an NFL long before 1967, the year of the first Super Bowl. Why do people and especially media not recognize NFL championships before that date?

When they talk Yankees it’s 26 championships, Celtics, 16 championships. For some reason it seems that people only count Super Bowls when it comes to pro football. I disagree with that because it (The Super Bowl) is the NFL championship.

So if you follow this logic I’d like to put something into perspective for disheartened Browns’ fans. We’ve been a franchise since 1946 and in the NFL since 1950. We only had 53 NFL seasons minus the four were out of the league, which I never understood why we celebrated 60 years.

We have four NFL championships, compare that to the Steelers who have been a franchise since 1933. In 75 years they have five NFL championships and I believe they waited 42 for their first one.

So take heart Joe Scalzo and all you Browns’ fans. I think we’re due. One other stat I’d like to point out is in the USA Today Friday edition they recognized the Browns as one of two pro team to go undefeated. They went 15-0 in 1948 to win the AAFC title. The 1972 Dolphins are the other.

I’d like to commend the Vindicator Sports for ther coverage Sunday of the Super Bowl. I like how they put post season honors for both team’s history. But I have to ask why do you only put NFL Champions dating to 1967 in your Through The Years listings?

I believe it started in 1920 and I’s like to see all the champions so I could see who has the most. I thing Green bays has 12 but not sure. Look at this as a slight to those who made this tame what it is today.
