E-PRESCRIBING How it works
Electronic prescriptions are intended to decrease errors. Here’s how the system works:
Using software, a doctor writes a prescription and includes details about the patient, the drug and the patient’s pharmacy. The information is sent through the Internet.
An intermediary — such as a network company — receives the prescription through the Internet and forwards it to the requested pharmacy.
The pharmacy’s computer receives the prescription and fills it.
