ALTRONIC Company history


The creation and expansion of Altronic:

1955: Leon Beeghly, president of Standard Slag, founded Economy Engine Co. in downtown Youngstown to commercialize work that had been done on a continuous spark ignition system.

1964: Beeghly’s grandson, Bruce, joins the company as an electrical engineer. He now is company president. Also that year, the company is moved to the corner of Belmont Avenue and Gypsy Lane.

1965: The company produced the Altronic 1 ignition and created the Altronic Division of Economy Engine. Altronic is a combination of the words alternator and electronic.

1969: The company moved to its present location on Trumbull Avenue in Girard.

1977: The company produces its first digital instrument, a tachometer.

1982: A nearby building was acquired to house the digital instrument division.

1984: The name of the company is changed to Altronic.

1985: Altronic enters a new era by producing the industry’s first crankshaft-referenced digital ignition system.

1994: A major plant expansion is completed that combines two separate buildings.

1996: An engineering and research and development center is built behind the production plant.

2002: Altronic creates GTI Bi-Fuel Systems after acquiring technology that allows generators to run on a mixture of natural gas and diesel fuel.

2007: Altronic completes an expansion to provide more space for production of the GTI line.
