Boardman’s Aldan swims to state competition


CLEVELAND — Boardman High freshman Ashley Aldan has qualfied for the state meet following Division I girls district swimming competition Friday at Cleveland State University’s Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

Aldan placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.26 seconds.

The top four in each swimming event qualified for next week’s state meet at Canton’s Branin Natatorium.

In Div. II, earning state berths were: Katie Joseph of McDonald, second place in the 50 freestyle (24.76); and Emily Gysegem of Lakeview, third in the 200 individual medley (2:12.07).

Poland’s Tricia Vallinger finished second in 1-meter diving (360.80 points) and Kacie Jaric of Springfield was third (320.35). The top seven divers advanced to state.

Ryan King, Gavin Trebilcock, Garrett Trebilcock and Eric Davis set a school record as Canfield took first place in the 200 medley relay in (1:36.15) in the boys Div. I district swim meet.

Garrett Trebilcock was second in the 200 individual medley (1:54.15) while Eric Davis (51.50) was third and Trebilcock (51.52) was fourth in the 100 butterfly.

Conner O’Halloran of Boardman (21.59 seconds) finished second in the 50 freestyle.

Boardman coach Terry O’Halloran said, “This has been, so far, including depth, one of the fastest meets in my 23 years of coaching.”

District swimming continues today at Cleveland State University.
