10 Falcons advance to semifinals
Girard’s team is third in Division III.
AUSTINTOWN — Ten athletes will be wrestling for Fitch High School in today’s semifinal matches following the first day of competition in the Division I district tournament at Fitch High School’s gymnasium.
The Falcons were in first place in the standings with 93 points.
Twinsburg was second with 83, Riverside third 71, Boardman fourth 71, Solon fifth 64.5, Stow-Munroe Falls sixth 63.5, Canfield seventh 53, Chardon eighth 40, Hudson ninth 31, Madison 10th, 30, Kent Roosevelt 11th 17.5 and Lakeside 12th 11.
Earning semifinal berths for the Falcons on Friday were: Shawn Ague, 103 pounds; Scott Satterlee, 112; Zack Martin, 125; Ben Welsh, 130; Jake Patterson, 140; Tony Jameson, 145; Louis Greco, 152; Josh Pankewicz, 160; Chris Miller, 215 and D.J. Moss.
Advancing for Boardman were: Jerry Pasquale, 103; Ricky Zupko, 112; Jeff Liggitt, 135; Nick DeMarinis, 152; Weston Rajkovich, 160; Brad Creatore, 215; and Don Humphreys, 285.
Canfield wrestlers advancing were: Robby Reed, 112; Brad Benedict, 135; T.J. Ben, 140; and Aron Brenner, 145.
Championship and consolation finals will follow the semis and consolation rounds which will be held today.
Division III
ROOTSTOWN — Girard High School was in third place with 66.5 points in the Div. III district wrestling tournamentat Rootstown High School.
Jackson-Milton and South Range were tied for fourth with 43 points while Brookfield was sixth with 42.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Woodridge were tied for first with 77 points.
Other teams are: Rootstown seventh with 40; Mogadore eighth with 36.5; Waterloo ninth with 35, Garfield; 10th with 32; Ursuline 11th with 21; Warren JFK 12th with 16; and St. Thomas Aquinas 13th with 7.
Brookfield athletes advancing are: Tyler Thompson, 103 pounds; Dan Miller, 130; Cody Thompson, 135; and Mike Bender, 160.
Jackson-Milton athletes advancing are: Vinny Pizzuto, 103; Santino Pizzuto, 112; Matt Mascioli, 125; Joe Skaggs, 145; and Dan Clawson, 285.
Girard athletes advancing are:Tony Cardiero, 125; Nico Francis, 135; Tallen Birmingham, 140; Jake Curto, 145; Rocky DeFrank, 152; Josh Alexander, 160; and Gary Bass, 171 of Girard.
South Range athletes advancing are: Lance Dangelo 130; Brennan Witmer, 140; Beau Bowden, 171; and William Manypenny 285.
