Workshop set in portraying historical figures

WARREN — The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County has a call out for all actors.

A workshop will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Market on the Square, 125 W. Market St., for those interested in participating in a new project, Trumbull Troupe.

The troupe will be a group of actors who are trained to perform historical, first-person re-creations of individuals from Trumbull County’s past.

Bobbie Brown, council director, said the project was developed as a result of the popularity of Ohio Chautauqua with county audiences. It featured a World War II theme and trained scholars and actors in costume playing the roles of historical figures.

“Trumbull Troupe is an opportunity for us to highlight the important work that people of Trumbull County have contributed to the country. In addition, it will allow us to offer an added bonus to groups touring our many local museums and historic houses,” Brown said.

The Sunday workshop will be conducted by storyteller and actress Karen Vuranch, a member of the 2007 Ohio Chautauqua troupe.

Some of the characters are Helen Hart Hurlbert, publisher of the Warren Tribune Chronicle, Atty. Clarence Darrow, President William McKinley and Stephen Foster.

Anyone interested in performing as a member of the troupe will need to research the character they intend to portray and write their own script. Additional workshops will be in March and April.
