Grants available for summer recreation

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way is offering grants to programs that provide summer educational and recreational activities to children in the Youngstown area.

The grants are for one year and are renewable annually for up to three years, said JoAnn Stock, director of marketing and resource development for United Way.

To qualify, the applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency. To receive a grant application and additional information, contact Ginny Pasha at United Way at (330) 746-8494. The deadline for receipt of the completed application is April 15 for programming for this summer.

The Youngstown Playground Association donated $47,000 to the local United Way with the stipulation that the money be used for recreational and educational activities for children in the Youngstown area.

Funding requests will be reviewed and allocation decisions made by members of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way Review Committee.
