Bridge repairs needed

Bridge repairs needed

PULASKI, Pa. — The Nashua Road bridge over the Shenango River is set to be replaced in 2010, but Lawrence County commissioners have learned the bridge needs repairs that can’t wait that long. The bridge, one of 28 the county owns, is safe to use, said Commissioner Steve Craig. But a routine bridge inspection found holes in support beams, and the connections between some floor beams and support beams are in poor condition. Frank B. Taylor Engineering, which is under contract for services with the county, notified commissioners Feb. 7 that the repairs are needed. Commissioners have authorized allowing the engineering firm to seek a cost estimate for the work. The county will use state liquid fuels money to make the repairs. Those are funds the state allocates from fuel taxes.
