MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees will determine if the township’s new zoning laws will become a reality.
The township zoning commission approved the zoning law changes after a public hearing Wednesday.
The Trumbull County Planning Commission approved the changes but also made suggestions, which the zoning commission incorporated into the new laws.
The new laws will be sent to the trustees for a public hearing and their vote of approval before they become law.
The county planning commission suggested the manner and attachment of all signs, including temporary signs, should be designed by a licensed engineer to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
For signs for entrance to developments, the law should specify they be located in relation to private roads as well as public rights of way, the commission added.
Two residents attended the meeting and spoke in favor of the new laws, said Sherri Craver, township zoning inspector.
No sign will be located so that it causes a safety hazard, and any sign illuminated with lights will not be allowed where the illumination interferes with safety or the general welfare.
Signs must be properly maintained and the area around signs must be kept free of weeds and debris.
For temporary access signs there is to be no more than one sign, or two in the case of a corner lot, displayed on street frontage.
Accessory temporary signs are to be no larger than 32 square feet, must not be illuminated and not placed in the right-of-way and in no way obstruct traffic visibility.
No vehicle, trailer or portable message sign is allowed to be parked permanently or otherwise on public or private property advertising the service or products at that or any other location or directing traffic to it.
A special-event permit will be issued for 30 days for a sign, and the sign must be removed 48 hours after the event is over.
