Trumbull officials OK building Champion sanitary sewer line

Commissioners approved a rate change for what
businesses are charged for fire protection.

WARREN — Construction of a $1 million sanitary sewer line in Champion Township could begin this summer after being approved Wednesday by the county commissioners.

Rex Fee, executive director of Trumbull County’s sanitary engineer department, said construction will begin in June or July, if it’s approved by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

The line will begin at Old Colony Drive and State Road. It would run northeast and service State, Prospect, East Champion and Sunnyfield avenues and Nezbar Drive. It will also run from 220 East Champion to Clovercrest Drive and to service the area.

The 48 homeowners in the area use septic systems, many of which need to be upgraded, Fee said.

Commissioners also approved a rate change for what businesses are charged for fire protection.

Fee explained that since 1999 the fee to all businesses has been $100 monthly, regardless of the size of the waterline. Thus, owners of small businesses were paying the same as large box-type stores that use larger lines.

Under the new rate structure, he explained, the monthly charge will be from $27.50 for the smallest businesses to $80 for the largest stores.
