Inside Boxing: “Inside Boxing” on WBBW-AM 1240 will air “Sendoff for a Champion with Kelly ‘The Ghost’ Pavlik” today from 6-9 p.m. from the downtown BW-3. The show, hosted by Mike Cefalde, will feature some of the area’s best-known fighters, trainers and referees and include calls from former lightweight champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Keiwan Ratliff and NFL players Gus Scott and Anthony Mitchell. All are Youngstown natives. Fans can enter a “Pick the round” contest for a chance to win a gift package worth between $300 and $400.

More radio, and TV too: Pavlik will be a guest on Jim Rome’s radio show Thursday at 2 p.m. on WBBW. Pavlik also will appear on Rome’s ESPN show at 4:30 p.m. on either Thursday or Friday. TV show either Thursday or Friday at 4:30 p.m.

In the blood: Youngstown’s history of boxing champions, including four from the 1980s (Mancini, Harry Arroyo, Jeff Lampkin and Greg Richardson), isn’t an accident, said promoter Mike Acri, an East Side native who now lives in Erie, Pa. “It just shows you what a great boxing town this is,” he said. “It’s in the blood. Someday, another guy, 15-20 years from now, is going to come out of Youngstown. It’s about being there, living in that city.”

Post-fight part changed: Saturday’s post-fight party hosted by Mancini in Las Vegas has been changed to the “Jet” night club inside the Mirage. The party, which was originally going to be at “The Bank” inside the Bellagio, will still begin at 10:30 p.m., following Pavlik’s rematch with Jermain Taylor. The change was due to heavy response, necessitating a larger venue.
