Boardwalk being built in Howland wetlands

WARREN — Construction has begun on a 300-foot boardwalk through wetlands in Howland Township, the Trumbull County Planning Commission was told Tuesday.

Commission staffer Trish Nuskievicz said the $350,000 project will be completed in mid-May, with $262,500 of it being funded through a state grant and $87,500 from Howland Township.

The $350,000 includes the purchase of 100 acres from private owners.

The wetlands will be accessible to walkers and those who enjoy nature after the walkway is completed, Nuskievicz said.

The boardwalk will be part of a nature trail that begins at Howland Park, goes along the gas well road, then onto the boardwalk, and onto some trails made by four-wheel vehicles and emerging at the back parking lot of Up A Creek Restaurant on East Market Street in Warren.

Nuskievicz said the boardwalk is being built by Daniel Terreri & Son Construction Inc. of North Jackson using wood and recycled plastic that appears to look like wood.
