Top 25 Round-up for College basketball Monday’s games

MEN

No. 8 Georgetown 55, Villanova 53

WASHINGTON — Jonathan Wallace, fouled in the backcourt by Corey Stokes with one-tenth of a second remaining, sank both free throws to give Georgetown its first home win over Villanova in more than a decade. Wallace came up with the loose ball in a mad scramble after Scottie Reynolds turned the ball over in traffic while Villanova was holding for the last shot. Wallace started to dribble and was slightly bumped by Stokes, who became the fourth player to foul out in a game that was marred by 48 fouls. Wallace scored 15 points for the Hoyas (20-3, 10-2 Big East). Reynolds led Villanova (14-9, 4-7) with 24 points, but he went only 1-for-6 from the field in the second half.

WOMEN

No. 1 Tennessee 59, No. 5 Rutgers 58.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Nicky Anosike sank two free throws with two-tenths of a second left as Tennessee rallied to beat Rutgers in a rematch of last season’s national championship game. Trailing 58-57, Anosike grabbed an offensive rebound and was grabbed by Kia Vaughn from behind. Unclear whether the foul had come before time expired, the Rutgers bench began to celebrate, but officials reviewed the play and determined that the foul had been committed just before the buzzer. Television replays showed the game clock seemed to pause as Anosike came down with the ball and two-tenths remained on the clock, leading to the controversial finish. Anosike camly stepped up and hit the two free throws to seal the victory. Candace Parker, who bruised her knee in the Lady Vols’ last game, had 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Angie Bjorklund added 13. Epiphanny Prince had 21 points for Rutgers, Essence Carson added 18.
