Funds OK’d for Kent Trumbull

COLUMBUS — The State Controlling Board released $260,940 Monday for renovations at Kent State University’s Trumbull Campus.

The funds will be used to revamp the main building, which was built in 1969 and ’70 and which houses administrative and faculty offices, classrooms, a lecture hall and laboratory space, according to documents.

Initially, the university considered adding science lab space, but a review determined that renovating the current laboratories would suffice, according to documents. The project will include updating 5,600 square feet of labs, including “the renovation and upgrade to the existing finishes, cabinetry, work surfaces, and the mechanical, electrical and data systems,” according to documents.

The new equipment and installation will be provided by Smith & Schaefer Inc. of Cincinnati.

In other business, the board OK’d $123,000 for a Youngstown mental health facility.

Turning Point Counseling Services Inc., a nonprofit contract agency of the Mahoning County Mental Health Board, is building a 1,300-square-foot addition and adding six beds to its 12-bed crisis housing facility, according to documents. The project is directed at individuals with “severe and persistent mental illness,” according to documents.
