Poland wins AP poll championship

Poland High’s unbeaten boys basketball team was accorded the Associated Press championship in voting by a state-wide panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

The Bulldogs, 18-0, earned 16 first-place votes and 245 total points to outdistance runner-up Chillicothe by 20 points. Dayton Dunbar, Toledo Libbey and St. Paris Graham rounded out the top five.

Two other area teams finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions. Warren Harding (17-1) finished No. 6 in Division I, as did Wellsville (18-1) in Div. IV.

Tournaments for area teams begins Feb. 18.
