Boccieri: GOP considering redistricting
COLUMBUS — State Sen. John Boccieri, D-33rd, contended in a statement Sunday that Republican leaders in the Ohio General Assembly are rehashing a congressional redistricting plan.
In 2006, Republicans tried to change Ohio’s system of drawing legislative and congressional districts, but the plan was defeated. Political boundaries are redrawn every 10 years after the national census.
Boccieri said that the redistricting in 1991 and 2001 essentially eliminated the Valley’s congressional district.
Rearrangement of the boundaries of congressional districts to influence the outcome of elections, known as gerrymandering, will have to withstand review by the Supreme Count, he said.
