Malone board votes to become a university

CANTON (AP) — The school’s board of trustees voted unanimously Saturday to change the name of Malone College to Malone University.

“This name change more accurately reflects the type of institution Malone has become since its move from Cleveland to Canton 50 years ago,” said Don Harper, chairman of the Malone board, which met in regular winter session.

Malone awards degrees in 49 undergraduate majors and five graduate programs, which began in 1990.

The school adopted a university structure in 1999, based on six separate schools — Arts and Sciences, Business, Continuing Studies, Education, Nursing and Theology, each with its own dean. The deans report to the provost, a typical university designation.
