Thirty-five judges ranked a variety of projects at Saturday’s event in Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center based in part on grade level and category, with best-of-show finishers receiving $50 savings bonds. Top finishers, placements, grades and categories:

BEST OF SHOW

Fifth grade: Esperanza Cabrera, West Elementary School, life science

Sixth: William Spencer, Volney Rogers Middle School, physical science

Seventh: Nicole Miller, Volney, life science

Eighth: William Mintler, Volney, environmental science

Ninth: Brendan O’Hara, Chaney High School, physical science

Mathematics: Shannon Lytle, eighth grade, Volney.

FIFTH GRADE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PLACE

Life science: Esperanza Cabrera; Juliana Bresko, Taft Elementary; and Taylor Labus, Kirkmere Elementary.

Physical science: Jo’Nathan Russ and Karesha Herron, both of Kirkmere; Damon McDowell, Kirkmere; and Jumarie Figieroa, P. Ross Berry Middle School.

Environmental science: John Kuharich, Paul C. Bunn Elementary School.

SIXTH GRADE

Physical science: William Spencer; Jose Rodriguez, Volney; Ronald Shield and Hallie Duarte, both of Volney, tied for third.

Life science: Nicole Miller; Megan Christ, Volney; and Amanda Hatfield, Volney

Physical science: Eileen Syfert, Volney; Lauren Bevan, Volney; Brandon Abell, Alpha School for Boys, and Charisse Brown, Volney, tied for third.

Environmental science: Tashi Hudson, Hayes Middle School.

Technology: Christina Morales and Ryan Coyier, both of Volney.

EIGHTH

Physical science: Travis Daugherty, Volney.

Environmental science: William Mintler.

NINTH

Physical science: Brendan O’Hara, Alex Mickler and Resean Yancey, all of Chaney.

Environmental science: Michael Giles, Choffin Career Center; and Brett Wilson, Chaney.
