Indalex lays off 20
at Niles extrusion plant
NILES — Indalex laid off 20 workers this week at its Niles extrusion plant. Scott Langdon, a spokesman for the Chicago-based aluminum extruder, said the cuts aren’t related to the upcoming closing of its Girard plant. The Niles layoffs are temporary and stem from reduced orders, he said. Most of the plant’s extrusions go to the trucking market and this is typically the slow time of year for orders, he said. Most of the workers who were laid off were temporary workers. Left at the plant are 34 hourly workers.
