Pupils dress down, help center by donating
YOUNGSTOWN — Pupils at Youngstown Christian School normally must adhere to the school dress code every day.
That means wearing certain color pants, shirts, etc.
However, two high school juniors came up with a plan that would allow high school students to “dress down” for a period of up to four days and provide a benefit to an area social service agency.
Jordyn Robinson and Kailoni Rossetti, both juniors, approached Michael Pecchia, school president, with the plan and he gave it his blessing.
Those who wanted the privilege of dressing down were assessed a fee of $2 a day (or $6 for all four days), and the money collected would be given to the Care Net Pregnancy Center of the Mahoning Valley on Market Street.
The effort worked out well with about 90 percent of the 135 high school students participating, Pecchia said.
Dress-down days netted $485 and Robinson and Rossetti delivered a check in that amount to Care Net in late January.
