Youngstown city schools

Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor has offered recommendations she says can reduce the Youngstown city schools’ spending by more than $17 million a year. Major proposals and estimated savings are:

Eliminate 26 administrators: $2,380,000.

Eliminate 83 regular teachers: $3,652,000.

Eliminate 50 education service personnel: $2,247,000.

Eliminate 35 special education positions: $1,795,000.

Eliminate 19 curriculum specialist positions: $1,224,000.

Eliminate 32 clerical positions: $965,000.

Eliminate 43 teacher aides: $887,000.

Eliminate 10 nursing positions: $250,000.

Eliminate eight library aide positions: $189,000.

Eliminate three maintenance positions: $107,000.

Eliminate 67 custodial positions: $1,140,000.

Eliminate 10 active buses: $164,000.

Require all employees to pay 10 percent of health care
premium cost: $1,547,000.
