Firefighters to be honored

YOUNGSTOWN — The 21st annual Youngstown Professional Firefighters Awards dinner begins at 7:30 tonight at the Italian American War Veterans Center, 115 S. Meridian Road. Awards include retirement, lifesaving and crew citations, as well as retirement and service.

Mayor Jay Williams is scheduled to be keynote speaker. Melanie Roscoe, who survived a head-on crash a year ago, will present awards to firefighters who used specialized equipment to free her from her vehicle. The crash was the result of a drunk driver, who died, the fire department said.
