YSU enrollment numbers pleases president

YOUNGSTOWN — The official spring 2008 student enrollment number at Youngstown State University stands at 12,755.

“We’re right on target,” said Dr. David C Sweet, YSU president, pointing out that spring enrollment is normally about 95 percent of the previous fall enrollment. YSU had 13,497 enrolled last fall, its highest fall number in 13 years. The university had set a goal of 14,000 students for fall 2008 as the YSU marks its centennial anniversary, and university officials say that number is within reach.

The official number this spring is even better than the first-day enrollment of 12,381. The university has launched a series of efforts in recent years designed to boost enrollment by attracting new students and retaining current ones.
