Ex-jail dentist sentenced to year in prison

WARREN — A former Trumbull County Jail dentist has been sentenced to one year in prison after violating his probation.

The sentenced was handed down Wednesday against Dr. Anthony J. Montevideo, 39, by Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Montevideo, of Niles, failed drug tests administered as part of his five-year probation.

He had pleaded guilty in May 2005 to two counts of illegal processing of drug documents, aggravated possession of drugs and deception to obtain dangerous drugs.

His attorney at the time, Phil Vigorito, said Montevideo didn’t deserve prison time because his client’s drug addiction started after he was placed on several medications because of his numerous medical conditions.

Girard police had said that Montevideo possessed or made a false or forged prescription for OxyContin, a pain medication.

He was the jail dentist for 16 to 18 months, but his employment was terminated about 21⁄2 months before his indictment.
