Second half rally lifts Girard, 54-40
LaBrae and Lakeview also earned TAC victories.
GIRARD — Girard High, trailing by six points at halftime, rallied to start the third quarter and went on to defeat Hubbard, 54-40, in a Trumbull Athletic Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night.
The Indians (5-12, 5-6) trailed 26-20 at halftime, but started the third quarter on 15-1 surge and the Eagles (11-6, 7-4) couldn’t recover.
Brett Cubellis scored a game-high 23 points and he had four steals for the Indians. Marty Brinker added 12 points and he had three steals. Anthony Guerrieri had 10 points and he grabbed nine rebounds.
Kurtis Drummond led the Eagles with 12 points and Corey Hitt finished with 11.
LaBrae 52, Liberty 49
LIBERTY — Mike Morris scored 22 points and Cameron Truss added 14 for LaBrae, which rallied from a 10-point deficit entering the fourth quarter. The Vikings (5-12, 4-7 TAC) trailed 42-32 with eight minutes to play, then outscored Liberty 20-7. Truss also had 11 rebounds and four assists. The Leopards (4-13, 3-8) were led by Floyd Showers’ 21 points. Jamon Wagner added eight points and 13 rebounds and Ben Baroff had four assists.
Lakeview 68, Brookfield 29
BROOKFIELD — Junior Ethan Metheny had 12 points — all off the bench, while classmate Robert Franks added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who spread around the offensive wealth. Lakeview rolled up a 34-9 lead at the half and coasted. Lakeview out-rebounded the Warriors, 37-21. Patrick Mulligan had 13 points for Brookfield, which lost to Lakeview on Jan. 11, 71-32.
Lordstown 62, Bristol 48
LORDSTOWN — Senior Jake DiEugenio had 10 of his 11 points in Lordstown’s 23-point second quarter in the Northeast Athletic Conference game. Senior Scott Chaffee had a team-high 15 points while Keith Simpson, also a senior, added 10 points for the Red Devils (7-10, 2-10 NAC). Lordstown’s other NAC victory was over Mathews. Jeremy Toney had a game-high 24 points for Bristol, which beat Lordstown, 61-56, on Jan. 8.
