Library gets grant for investing program
YOUNGSTOWN — The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County was awarded a $57,950 grant to help parents save for and invest in their children’s education.
The new program — to be held in conjunction with the library’s Baby Brilliant early literacy program — will be called “Baby Brilliant Goes to College.” The grant will allow the library to provide effective, unbiased investor education to the community at large.
The Mahoning County library system was one of 13 nationwide to be selected for Smart Investing at Your Library, a program sponsored by the American Library Association and the Financial Industry.
“Whether choosing what type of savings plan makes the most sense for a family, researching a potential stock investment or leaning more about bank products, the Mahoning County library system offers the needed resources to help its patrons make smart investing decisions,” said Loriene Roy, president of the American Library Association.
Local officials are still planning program specifics, said library spokesperson Janet Loew. They hope to begin offering financial services in late summer, she said.
