BOARDMAN — A Youngstown man faces several charges, accused of running from police after a traffic stop.
Police charged Korey Jennings, 26, of East Ravenwood Avenue, with trafficking in suspected crack, marijuana and methadone and with having a controlled substance in a container without a label, all felonies, and with a misdemeanor offense of resisting arrest.
Police stopped Jennings’ vehicle about 4:45 p.m. Saturday on South Avenue after the car changed lanes without using a turn signal. When the officer stopped the car and approached Jennings, Jennings told the officer that he was under suspension and was sorry for driving, a police report said.
The officer had Jennings get out of the car and saw a bulge under his jacket. When the officer tried to handcuff Jennings, a bag of suspected crack cocaine fell to the ground.
Jennings’ jacket made it difficult for the officer to apply handcuffs and when the officer tried to move the jacket sleeve, Jennings ran, a report said.
Jennings tripped as he ran through rear yards and the officer ordered him to stay down. Jennings complied and was handcuffed.
Two more officers arrived at the scene and one found a bag containing 8 grams of suspected crack on the street by Jennings’ car, a 4-gram bag of suspected marijuana, and another bag that contained 19 methadone pills on the street.
Methadone is a prescription medication for the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence.
Inside the car, police found a liquid prescription bottle with a suspected cough suppressant. Its label had been removed.
The police report said Jennings told police he uses the cough suppressant to get high while smoking cigars.
Jennings remains in the Mahoning County Jail and is expected in court today.
