Lions Club marks 85th anniversary

WARREN — Warren Lions Club is celebrating 85 years of service to the community.

Members of the club have dedicated time and talents to such projects as “Make a Difference Day” by helping clean areas of Warren, and have been volunteer bell ringers for the Salvation Army.

Funds are donated annually to sight-saving and research projects conducted by Lions International. During the past year under the leadership of Jim Bloom, members provided 15 pairs of eyeglasses for the needy in the community. They also presented a program on ocular conditions by Dr. Robert Shapiro, retired ophthalmologist.

In the past 41 years, the club has held a Christmas party and provided educational supplies for hearing impaired children in the county.

The club is affiliated with the Lions Club International. In keeping with the organization’s motto, “We Serve,” the 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youths and provide help in time of disaster.
