Armour's 27 pace Liberty to 14th win, 10th in TAC


Lakeview and Newton Falls also triumphed while
Lordstown won its 11th.

LIBERTY — The Liberty High girls basketball team took a 30-15 halftime lead and was never threatened, pulling away for a 64-35 win over Champion in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.

Brittany Armour sparked the Leopards (14-5, 10-3) with 27 points. Chi-Chi Merriweather pulled down 11 rebounds as the Leopards had 35 rebounds and Champion 22. Melissa Dykes of Liberty had six assists and Bri Petway had five steals.

Heather Beachy paced the Golden Flashes (1-18, 1-2) with 12 points.

Lakeview 65, Girard 46

GIRARD — Joanna Novotny poured in 22 of her 35 points in the first half as Lakeview took a commanding 41-21 halftime lead en route to the TAC win.

Jessica Downs added nine points for the Bulldogs (7-12, 5-8).

Emily Smerchansky scored 15 points and Melissa Weitzman added 10 for Girard (1-18, 1-12).

Newton Falls 46, Hubbard 39

HUBBARD — Newton Falls made 11 of its 12 free throws in the second half and was able to pull past Hubbard.

The Tigers (10-9, 7-6 TAC) were led by Blane Chapman’s 14 points and Kelsey McGregor’s 13. Chapman had four 3-point goals.

Hubbard (10-9, 8-5) was led by Brittany Bullock with 15 points.

Lordstown 64, Southington 62

LORDSTOWN — Lindsey Harrison scored 28 points, including five 3-point goals, and also grabbed six rebounds while Brianna Blodgett had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Lordstown (11-6, 5-6 Northeastern Athletic Conference).

Blodgett and Carly Gibbs had four points each in the fourth quarter, as the Red Devils managed to stay ahead down the stretch.

Kelsey Wickline added seven points and four steals while Heather Wickline had five points and four assists to aid Lordstown.

Southington is 7-12, 5-7 NAC.
